Degrees and Majors - choose the best option for you…
The Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music offers a Bachelor of Music degree, a Bachelor of Music Education degree, or a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. The Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degree programs offer the highest possible level of musical and academic integrity available to an undergraduate student. Several majors within the Bachelor of Music degree help students as they prepare for a particular career emphasis. All students must audition and be accepted for applied study on a primary instrument, regardless of the major they choose. The Conservatory enjoys accreditation by NASM, National Association of Schools of Music, recently renewed for the maximum ten years.
Bachelor of Music (BM)
-
Instrumental Performance (woodwind, brass, percussion, strings & guitar)
As a Bachelor of Music student, you study privately with applied faculty members, most of whom perform professionally. All students study music theory, music history and literature, piano, and perform in a major ensemble. Performance majors present an abbreviated junior recital and a full senior recital. Musical theatre, theory, history and literature, and composition majors present a senior recital.
Bachelor of Music Education (BME)
The Bachelor of Music Education major embraces a comprehensive yet practical curriculum of both choral and instrumental instruction to prepare students for licensure in music for grades prekindergarten – 12. In addition to training in educational theory, you study privately with an applied faculty member in your vocal or instrumental concentration, participate in ensembles and present an abbreviated senior recital.
B-W also offers a five-year program that enables students to earn both the B.M. degree in performance and the B.M.E. degree. A jazz emphasis is available to performance or music education majors.

Double Degree Option
If you have a strong interest in music but do not wish to pursue a performing, therapy, or teaching career, you may elect a Bachelor of Arts program. These programs include private lessons, ensemble participation and other classes in music. A conservatory application and audition are required. Students who choose this major often plan to earn a second major in a non-music area. It is also possible to have a major in another field with a minor in music.
